Medical Equipment Program
Did you know that there is a lot of medical equipment and specialized equipment that isn't covered by private benefits or Alberta Health Services? We don't think that families should have to ensure the financial hardship of buying medical equipment, so we decided we needed to step up!
We're so happy to announce that we've launched our Medical Equipment Program through the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta! This much needed program is the first of it's kind in Edmonton! The program is set up to purchase non-covered medical equipment for paediatric cancer patients. The items we cover range from walkers and specialized wheelchairs to hospital beds and oxygen machines.
It's the wish of some terminally ill children to live their remaining days at home instead of in the Hospital. There are nurses and programs set up to make this possible, however items like hospital beds are not covered or available through the Hospital. No child should ever have this wish denied, so we're here to help provide the needed equipement.
Some children are in so much pain that regular chairs and couches don't work. There are specialized Lazboy style chairs that we have purchased for children as it's the only opportunity for them to get out of bed and do normal things with their families.
Some children require specialized walkers to be able to walk. These walkers can be in the $3,000 - $4,000 range. Shortly after the program launched, we purchased a specialized winter walker for a child so they could have independence in winter as well.
These are just a few examples of medical equipment that we've been buying for families.
